Prison Currencies: how it works
Prison runs on five main currencies, and each one levels a different part of your progress. Knowing where each comes from helps you pick the right enchants and upgrades.
How to open it: Check a balance with /tokens, /gems, /essence or /credits. Spend Essence in the /essenceshop.
There are currently 5 main currencies, plus Shards for gangs and Credits for the store.
- Money: Comes from every block you mine and is spent automatically on prestiges.
- Tokens: Come from Token Miner and most bomb enchants, and level the 61 Token enchants including Fortune.
- Gems: Come from Gem Finder and the gem bombs, and level the 35 Gem enchants including Fortune's Father.
- Prestige Points: Come from prestiging and buy Prestige Upgrades, Pickaxe Quality, Prestige enchants and the Prestige Shop.
- Essence: Comes mainly from Essence Greed and levels pets and masteries, upgrades auras and fossils, and buys shop items.
- Shards: Gang currency from the Shard Finder enchant, used for gang upgrades and gang points.
- Credits: The store currency, which you can also earn from milestones, the Mega Boss and both shops.
Note: Essence Shop prices rise with each purchase, and each item has a weekly cap.
Tips
- The Essence Shop always stocks a Weekly Crate and Credits, and shows 4 of 8 rotating deals each day.
- Essence Shop deals reshuffle every day at 3PM ET.
- Essence Merchant and Essence Magnate add to Essence Greed, so level them together for more Essence.
Example: You earn 1 Prestige Point for every 10,000 prestiges, so 1,000,000 prestiges give 100 Prestige Points before boosts.
Money, Tokens, Gems, Prestige Points and Essence explained
Money comes from every block you mine and is spent automatically on prestiges.
Tokens come from Token Miner and most bomb enchants. They level the 61 Token enchants, including Fortune, the main money enchant.
Gems come from Gem Finder and the gem bombs. They level the 35 Gem enchants, including Fortune's Father, a second money multiplier that stacks on top of Fortune.
Prestige Points (PP) come from prestiging: 1 point for every 10,000 prestiges, boosted by rebirths, Prestige Scholar, pets and vouchers. They buy Prestige Upgrades, Pickaxe Quality, the 22 Prestige enchants, the Prestige Shop and Wheel spins.
Essence comes mainly from the Essence Greed enchant (with Essence Merchant and Essence Magnate on top), plus pets and auras that boost it. It levels pets and masteries, upgrades auras and fossils, and buys items in the Essence Shop.
Shards are gang currency from the Shard Finder enchant. Credits are the store currency, which can also be earned in game from milestones, the Mega Boss, the Prestige Shop and the Essence Shop.

Essence Shop
The /essenceshop is paid in Essence. The top row (Weekly Crate and Credits) is always stocked; the bottom row shows 4 of 8 rotating deals, reshuffled every day at 3PM ET. Prices rise with each purchase, and each item has a weekly cap that adds up over the season.

How do I get Tokens?
Mine. Token Miner gives Tokens on every block and most bomb enchants pay Tokens too; Token Merchant, Token Explosion and Super Token Miner multiply it.
What are Gems used for?
Gems level the 35 Gem enchants, such as Quasar, Solar Flare and Fortune's Father. You get them from Gem Finder and from most bomb enchants.
What is Essence used for?
Essence levels pets and masteries, upgrades auras and fossils, and buys Weekly Crates, Credits and boxes in the Essence Shop. Essence Greed is the main source.
When do the Prestige Shop and Essence Shop reset?
Both restock daily at 3PM ET; the Essence Shop also reshuffles its 4 rotating deals at that time.
