# TalonMC Survival SMP Beginner's Guide

**Short answer:** Join `play.talonmc.net`, pick Survival SMP in the hub, then follow the steps below. Join play.talonmc.net on Java 1.21.4 or newer, or on Bedrock, and pick Survival.

## Your first hour on TalonMC Survival SMP

- **Step 1**Join play.talonmc.net on Java 1.21.4 or newer, or on Bedrock, and pick Survival.
- **Step 2**Claim the free Starter kit with /kit. It includes a Claim Wand, food, iron, coal, a diamond, XP bottles, a Vote Key and a Level Up Key.
- **Step 3**Use /rtp to find land in the Normal World, which never resets. Use the Resource World for mining since it resets monthly.
- **Step 4**Claim your base with the Claim Wand: left-click, right-click the opposite corner, then shift + right-click. Trust friends with /trust.
- **Step 5**Join up to 3 jobs with /jobs that match how you play, and check which jobs are boosted this cycle.
- **Step 6**Open /missions and work through the daily board for card packs, keys, credits and job boosts.
- **Step 7**Open /tradingcards to claim 3 free Starter packs.
- **Step 8**Vote every day with /vote and get 10 minutes of playtime plus a Discord link to claim /freerank.
- **Step 9**Check /levelup to see what your next Survival Level needs and what it unlocks.
- **Step 10**When you are geared up, try the Deadzone with /dz. Your first 3 runs come with a free starter kit and you always keep your own gear.
