# What Is an SMP in Minecraft?

**Short answer:** SMP stands for survival multiplayer: a shared Minecraft survival world where players build, gather and trade together. Private SMPs are small and whitelisted; public SMP servers let anyone join and usually add land claims and an economy. Play on TalonMC at `play.talonmc.net`.

**Server IP:** `play.talonmc.net` (Java) · Bedrock: same address, port `19132`

## Survival SMP terms explained

| Term | What it means |
| --- | --- |
| SMP | Survival multiplayer: normal survival Minecraft shared with other players on one server. |
| Claim | A protected area you mark around your base so untrusted players cannot build or open containers. |
| Trust | Giving a friend permission to build, open containers or use buttons inside your claim. |

| Opt-in PvP | Players only fight when both have turned PvP on. On TalonMC that is /pvp. |
| Jobs | Paid roles like Miner or Farmer that earn money and job XP for things you already do. |
| Player warp | A teleport point another player sets up, often for a shop or a farm. |
| Auction house | A server-wide market where players list items for sale. |
