# How to Join a Cobblemon Server

**Short answer:** To join a Cobblemon server, install the server's modpack (usually from Modrinth), launch Minecraft from that modpack profile, then add the server address under Multiplayer. A vanilla client cannot join, because Cobblemon is a Fabric mod the client needs too. Play on TalonMC at `play.talonmc.net`.

## Step 1: install a launcher that handles modpacks

The **Modrinth App** is the simplest. Prism Launcher and ATLauncher also work. All three are free.

## Step 2: install the server's modpack

Each Cobblemon server publishes a modpack with the exact Cobblemon version and client mods it expects. For TalonMC, open the [TalonMC Cobblemon modpack on Modrinth](https://modrinth.com/modpack/talonmc-cobblemon) and click Install.

## Step 3: launch and join

Start the modpack profile, click Multiplayer, add `play.talonmc.net` and join. Pick Cobblemon in the hub.

## Fabric or NeoForge?

Cobblemon exists for both mod loaders, but a server and its players must match. TalonMC runs Fabric, and the modpack installs Fabric for you, so you never need to set up a loader by hand.

## What is in the TalonMC modpack

Besides Cobblemon itself, the pack adds Mega Showdown (Mega Evolution, Z-Moves, Dynamax and Tera), the Cobblemon smartphone, gym badges, furniture, a minimap and world map, backpacks, Cobblenav, TMs, Jade tooltips and performance mods such as Sodium and Iris. Everything the server needs on your side is already in it.

## Give it enough memory

Modpacks need more memory than vanilla Minecraft. As a rule of thumb, set the profile to 6 GB if your PC has 16 GB of RAM, and 4 GB if it has 8 GB. In the Modrinth App this is under the instance settings, Java and memory. If the game stutters, lower render distance before adding more memory.

## What happens on your first join

- The join queue checks your modpack version. If it is outdated you are asked to update it.

- You land in the TalonMC hub. Pick Cobblemon.

- Choose your starter, then run `/freerank` once you qualify, and follow the [Cobblemon beginner's guide](https://www.talonmc.net/cobblemon/beginners-guide/).

## Common joining errors and fixes

| Mod rejections or missing registry entries | You launched vanilla Minecraft or a different pack. Launch the TalonMC modpack profile. |

| Turned away by the join queue | Your pack is outdated or you joined with plain Fabric. Update the modpack in your launcher and launch that profile. |
